University City

Philadelphia has more schools of higher learning than any other city in the world. So it is no surprise that most of West Philadelphia is usually referred to as University City. A true American melting pot is found here, as people bring their families and cultures from all over the globe to study and live in U.C.'s large homes, wide streets and Ivy League schools. The Schuylkill River creates the eastern and southern borders, and as it stretches west to 55th Street and north to Baring Street. University City encompasses several small neighborhoods, including Powelton Village, Spruce Hill and Cedar Park.
