Bordered by the neighborhoods Society Hill and Bella Vista,  to Market Street to the North and Broad Street to the East, Washington Square West contains many of Philadelphia's most beautiful homes and treasured sites.  America's first hospital is there, surrounded by hulking brownstone apartment houses.  Antique Row and Jewelers' Row offers shoppers a tremendous selection of often hard to find items. Washington Square is a lush oasis, encircled by high-rise apartment buildings, colonial mansions, and historic publishing companies, such as The Saturday Evening Post.  This recently rejuvinated square, once used as a burial ground, contains a memorial Tomb of the Unknow Revolutionary War Soldier. The "park" is known for afternoon loungers taking a break in the warm summer sun.
