Fishtown

Often referred to as Lower or Old Kensington, the neighborhood of Fishtown received its nickname from the abundance of shad migrated down the Delaware River each spring. Early settlers could catch more than enough fish to feed their families and would smoke or salt the harvest to last through the coming year. Modern residents proudly boast of an old fashioned "family" neighborhood, with ample parks and reasonably priced homes. While geographically it is between Girard and Aramingo Avenues, loyal long-time neighbors perfer to think of Fishtown as a spirit, a state of mind.
